Hotstar is owned
by 21
st Century Fox through star India, signed an agreement with HBO
that gave Hotstar access to most of the latter’s content, minutes after it
aired in the United States.
In addition to that Hotstar tied up with Disney
India to bring the latter’s film and TV slate onto its service. Which means everything
from star wars: The Jingle Book, The force Awakens and the Avengers is now with
Hotstar. Hotstar benefits from being owned by a powerhouse in India’s realm of
entertainment broadcasters, Star India.

The other
leading app in India is Amazon Prime Video, which made a start at Launch by
announcing a slate of 17 original Indian Shows, from the likes of Farhan and
Zoya Akhtar, Vikramaditya motwance and all India Bakchod. Amazon prime video films
are focused on six different languages covering Bengali and Tamil.
